Worshipful Brother John D, Arthur, acting for the family of the newly installed Master, and Brother Ward D. King, each presented a gavel to the incoming Master. Worshipful Brother Frerick was presented with a pastmaster's apron by Worshipful Brother W. Hohnhorst, and with a past master's jewel by Worshipful Brother Guy R. Pratt. Worshipful Brother Guy R. Pratt acted as installing officer, with the assistance of Worshipful Brother P.W. Herrmann as Marshall. Seventy-seven members and sixteen visitors were in attendance.
On Monday, December 23, 1946, a Christmas party was given for the children. The attendance was over three hundred and caused Brothers Wayne Stafford and Larry Plants to go out and buy additional presents well after the eleventh hour, and Worshipful Brother Guststern and his wife presented the Christmas tree. Worhipful Brother John D. Arthur amply filled the essential role of Santa Claus in his usual inimitable manner.
On Friday, January 10, 1947, the Annual Roll Call of Heights Lodge was held, being preceded by a dinner. Worshipful Brother H. C. Heiss acted as Chaplain and presented some twenty-five bibles to newly affiliated brethren. Brother R. B. Whyte, pastor of Old Stone Church, addressed the one hundred twenty-four brethren and nine visitors who attended.
On Friday, February 28, 1947, the Lodge was inspected in the Master Mason Degree by Right Worshipful Brother LaVerne Bowers. The meeting was preceded by a dinner and attended by eighty-nine members and thirty-five visitors, The inspecting officer was most complimentary concerning the Lodge records, finances and the work in general. The Master expressed the hope that the appearance of the Lodge Room would be improved.
On Friday, April 25, 1947, the Lodge was turned over to the Past Masters who showed us how the Master Mason degree should be exemplified. Sixteen out of our Eighteen Past Masters attended, and Worshipful Bros. Bogue and Arthur sent their regrets from Florida and Texas respectively. The Master expressed his sincere appreciation of the excellent work our Past Masters accomplish throughout the year. One Hundred One members and twenty-five visitors attended.
On Saturday, May 17, 1947, about sixty-five couples attended the Spring Dance of Heights Lodge. Worshipful Brother Guy R, Pratt, us Chairman of the Entertainment Committee, gave us a new orchestra, excellent entertainment, and a midnight supper, and the attendance showed our appreciation for his efforts.
On Friday, June 13, 1947, the Fellow Craft Team was honored for their excellent work, and the many hours spent on Friday and additional Monday meetings, by a dinner and an address by Brother Nelson J. Brewer (33º elect), Judge of the Probate Court.
On Saturday, July 12, 1947, our Summer Picnic was held at Braeburn. The attendance was good, the weather perfect, and the children had enough ice cream to forget about the failure of the milk to arrive.
On Friday, September 6, 1947, the appreciation of the Lodge for the excellent work done in redecorating the Lodge Room was expressed to Worshipful Brother P. W. Herrmann and Brother Leonard Brickley in their capacities as President and House Committee Chairman of the Heights Masonic Temple Company.
On Saturday, October 18, 1947, the Fall Dance had just as good an orchestra, entertainment, and refreshments as had the Spring Dance. Due to a wedding, our attendance fell off considerably,
The Master regrets that Worshipful Brother Hohnhorst was unable to act as Historian. The Master also regrets that worshipful Brother Breitweg has resigned as Treasurer. These worshipful Brethren have served us faithfully for many years, but we know they will still be regular attendants at our meetings.
The Master also especially regrets the death of Brother Sam Russell, our Tyler for so many years. Heights Lodge will not seem the same without him. The assistance of Worshipful Brother Grundman in taking over the difficult duties of this position is much appreciated.
In closing the Master expresses his appreciation to all who carried Heights Lodge through a busy year. We who have worked together performing the multitude of daily tasks sometimes lose sight of our ultimate goal -- a Lodge possessing good fellowship, strong ritual work, and a firm financial basis - yet it is by that daily work that such a goal can be accomplished.
Respectfully submitted,
Douglas F. Schofield, Worshipful Master, 1947
